Dronabinol significantly improved appetite (71% → 26% loss of appetite after 1 month, p<0,001) and enabled weight stabilization or gain in 63% of the 117 patients with weight loss, with mean weight gain of 3,7 lb over 1 year.
Retrospective chart review of n=117 HIV/AIDS patients with weight loss before baseline, dronabinol 3–12 months (1993–2003). 63% of patients with weight loss maintained weight or gained weight; mean weight gain after 1 year +3,7±10,6 lbs. Loss of appetite decreased significantly from 71% (baseline) to 26% (month 1, p<0,001) and decreased further. Nausea decreased from 38% (baseline) with a significant difference from month 6 (p=0,031).
The second of four GRADE levels, the effect estimate is of limited reliability.
