Key finding

Nabiximols showed good tolerability and feasibility, however the recruitment target was not fully reached and efficacy on agitation remains unclear.

Summary

STAND feasibility RCT (n=29) of nabiximols (1:1 THC:CBD) vs. placebo for agitation in Alzheimer's dementia over 4 weeks in UK care homes. Primary goal was feasibility (≥75% follow-up, ≥80% adherence, Cohen's d ≥0,3 on CMAI). Follow-up rate 100%, adherence 100%, no study dropouts, no adverse reactions. Well tolerated and feasible; supports a larger efficacy study.
