SummaryNarrative review on current and novel pharmacotherapies for the treatment of behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD). Search of ClinicalTrials.gov up to July 2018, focus on randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials with BPSD as primary endpoint. Discussed are, among others, atypical antipsychotics (brexpiprazole, lumateperone, pimavanserin) and SSRIs (citalopram). Review shows heterogeneous evidence base with moderate effect sizes and relevant side effect profiles.
