Limited and generally poor quality of evidence for the efficacy of cannabinoid-based products in neuropsychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorders in children and adolescents.
Systematic review on cannabinoids in neuropsychiatric/neurodevelopmental disorders in children/adolescents (≤18 years); k=5 studies specifically on autism spectrum disorder identified (out of a total of 18 included studies across 8 indications, 4466 screened). Only 1 RCT found overall, remaining 17 studies with high risk of bias (open-label, uncontrolled before-after designs, case series, case reports). Conclusion: limited and generally low-quality evidence for the efficacy of cannabis products in autism and related disorders in the pediatric population.
The second of four GRADE levels, the effect estimate is of limited reliability.
